Pacific Islands!

Room 5 is currently learning about Pacifica. I am going to talk to you about some of the things we have learnt so far. Well....... we have learnt about the ocean groups such as Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia. Polynesia contains islands such as Tonga, Samoa, The Cook Islands and French Polynesia. Wallis, Tutara, Tu Valu, Easter Island and the Chatham islands too, and much much more. Melanesia contains Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Micronesia contains The Marianas, The Carolines, and The Marshalls.
It may not seem interesting but really it is. We also learn about what is Global Warming and what it is doing to these islands and much more. It is fun and people in Room 5 think so too!!!

Cross Country Training

Today the Discovery Academy went for a run around the Western Heights block it was real tiring. When we started everyone was trying to be first in line and to be the first back. While we were running people were starting to slow down and I was one of them. When Mrs Goldsworthy started saying she would put us on detention I started running again so that I wouldn't be on detention.
When we were getting near to the school people started running again so that they wouldn't be last and I was running as fast as I could so that I wouldn't be the last person and I wasn't. When we all were at school we all rested on the grass and then we had to wait for all the other people to hurry up and get back and then 2 minutes later everyone was there and then we went back to class and then started our speeches again.
When we all finished the block run I wanted to do another but we weren't allowed too. Next time I will try and make it as far as I can without stopping so that I won't be one of the last.
I hope to go back out for a run tomorrow and see if I can run a distance without stopping.

Room 5's Awesome Speeches!!!

Room 5 has been working really to finish of their speeches. We have been timing our speeches writing, publishing and researching. All of these things have been a lot of hard work. We have been working on our speeches non-stop. We have also been working at home at night and on the weekends.

Lots of our speeches have been about the Pacific Islands because our topic for this term is Pacific Islands. Some of the subjects are carvings, food, health issues and some student's trip to the Pacific Islands. Some of the Pacific Islands have flooding problems.Takku is one of the worst because people will have to start leaving because it will be taken over by the sea. This is one of the things caused by Global Warming. Then the ice will melt and the island will be gone.

An Amazing Waka

This is an awesome picture of the Waka Experience. The waka is so COOL! When we got out far on the lake but not far enough to reach Mokia island. It was hilarious when this plane coming down to land and everyone started to get nervous. It was a fun 1 hour adventure but it was tiring. Room 5 was 'The best'

Mrs Edward

"Room 5, I don't want your work to turn out like this so called year 8's work''
Mrs Edward may sound grumpy but she just doesn't want us to get into trouble! Mrs Edward is a nice lady. She gives us in some way quite a bit of work, not hard, just heaps of it! When it is home time she keeps us in for about 10 minutes after the bell. Okay maybe we over exaggerate a little. Just the same at morning tea and lunch time she keeps us in for what feels like a century. She has nice short grey hair, glasses and a beautiful smile
